Ring of Fire Alpine Ultra
Friday, 27 March 2026 to Sunday, 29 March 2026
Ohakune, Tongariro National Park
The iconic Ring Of Fire (ROF) Alpine Ultra Marathon returns to Tongariro National Park from 27 to 29 March 2026.
The full 100km takes runners on a full circumnavigation of the formidable Mount Ruapehu starting, and finishing in Ohakune. It’s a true test of endurance - physically, mentally, and spiritually with rugged alpine terrain, high altitude, and vast volcanic landscapes that will challenge and inspire every step of the way.
It can be completed solo or as a relay team of 3 with 3 legs ranging from 30km - 35km.
The 60km is a spectacular point-to-point ultra starting on the historic Waihohonu Hut Track and finishing in Ohakune.
Across both distances, runners traverse a wild mix of desert plateaus, scoria and lava fields, native bush, tussock-covered ridgelines, and clear mountain streams. The journey is tough and beautiful, with big climbs and even bigger views.
