Horseshoe Bay to Oban, Stewart Island
The Rakiura Challenge Trail Run returns to Rakiura National Park, Stewart Island on 3 October 2026.
The 32km course has approximately 950m of ascent as it takes runners along the Rakiura Track - one of the most varied and diverse trails in New Zealand on the southern-most Great Walk. The track show-cases a unique environment that spans from one coast of Stewart Island to the other through dense forest to epic coast, starting from Horseshoe Bay and finishing in Oban.
This is a trail-running weekend event. Entrants must plan for a 2-night stay on Stewart Island on the Friday and Saturday nights of the weekend.
The Department of Conservation, DOC has granted concession for 250 runners to compete in the run.
