The event begins at the Tairua Surf Life Saving Club, where athletes will make their way up Tairua's Mount Paku via the Oceania Coastal Track to the summit reaching the trig point. Athletes then descend to the Paku Wharf where they enter the water and swim across to Pauanui beach.
At the end of the long 3km stretch of golden white sand, athletes then embark on the steep climb to the trig point of Mount Pauanui.
