Dick Quax dies after long battle with cancer
The Olympic 5000m silver medallist at the 1976 Montreal Games and former world record-holder died at Auckland's Middlemore Hospital on Monday morning, a close family friend confirmed to Stuff. Quax was aged 70. Find out more about his career in this article at Stuff.

Legally blind, running Christchurch Marathon
Nicola Asmussen has been legally blind all her life. On Sunday she is taking on the ASB Christchurch Marathon, running a half-marathon with a guide tethered to her arm from Achilles International New Zealand, an organisation aimed at helping Kiwis with disabilities participate in events. What's the difference between a Mud Run and an Obstacle Course Race?
Max over at Obstacle Course Racers NZ writes "as a genre of running-based events, obstacle course racing is wild. There's a massive amount of variety from one event to the next…" He clarifies the difference between the two in this blog post. Pauline Cowens and the Snell Shoe
Radio New Zealand has a weekly series called "Treasures from Te Papa" and looked at the shoes Peter Snell was wearing when he won the 800 metres at the Rome Olympic Games in 1960 in this week's episode. They're quite different from today's shoes, and were made by none other than coaching legend Arthur Lydiard. Find out more here at Radio NZ.

Recent updates

Cancellations
- I've marked the Norsewood to Takapau Fun Challenge on 8 July as cancelled; the Norsewood and Takapau Lions Clubs have withdrawn from hosting the event and the website has been taken offline

Postponements
- The new date for Marlborough Muddy Buddy (previously postponed twice due to weather) is now on 4 November

Date changes/corrections
- The Auckland Half Marathon Series has been rejigged slightly, with a new event at Maraetai taking Coatesville's place on 17 March and Coatesville taking over Orewa's spot on 10 February; Orewa is now a standalone event outside the Half Marathon Series

Late additions
- Holloway Memorial Cross Country Races on 9 June
