Just a reminder that we currently have a competition for our premium members that will be drawn on February 1st.

Christchurch youth inmates tackle marathon
Prisoners in the youth unit at Christchurch Men's Prison ran a marathon starting at dawn on January 5th by running 19 laps of the 2.2km loop around the compound. One of the men in the video interview said that running was "better than any drug I've ever tried". Check out the pre-marathon video at TVNZ and the post marathon report at Radio New Zealand.

Sylvia Potts at the 1970 Commonwealth Games
The NZ Olympic Team is posting all sorts of interesting videos in the countdown to this year's Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. This recent video posted on Facebook (no login required to view it) shows Sylvia Potts at the 1970 Edinburgh Games; she was metres from the finish line with the women’s 1500m gold medal seemingly in her grasp when she fell and missed out on a medal.

Richie McCaw claims respectable finish with partner in adventure race
Richie McCaw is now showing the same defiance he had on a rugby field in tougher terrain, and he says the Red Bull Defiance adventure race in Wanaka is one of the toughest thing he has ever done. Find out more in this article at Stuff.

Manawatu Striders still a hot event for runners and walkers
The Manawatu Striders Super Seven Series returned last week and, despite the high of 27 degrees for the day, more than 1580 people participated! I think that would have to make it the largest weekday running event in New Zealand, so is obviously the place to be on a Tuesday night. Find out more in this article at Stuff.

Cancellations
- Last week's Orewa Beach Series and Takapuna Beach Series events were cancelled due to extreme weather; additional events will be added to the end of the series

Late additions & returning series
- Rolleston Road Runners Monday Night Run returning next week
- Malvern Road Runners Tuesday Night Run and Walk returning next week
- Shoe Clinic 5 Series on Tuesdays from 6 February to 27 March
- Ellesmere Road Runners Wednesday Night Run and Walk which returned last week
- The Rat Race in Auckland on Wenesdays, which return on the 10th
- Eddyline 5k Summer Series on Wednesdays from 7 February to 28 March
- Smith & McKenzie Fun Run & Walk on Wednesdays through to 28 March
