The inaugural Wairarapa Backyard Ultra is a last one standing endurance race in Masterton, starting on 3 April 2026.

A Backyard Ultra is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run a 6.71km course in less than one hour, every hour. When each lap is completed, the remaining time within the hour is used to recover and replenish for the next hour's race. The race finishes when one person completes one more lap than anyone else.

Based from the Colin Pugh Sportsbowl, the course is a challenging but achievable loop through scenic Wairarapa countryside. Terrain includes trails, gravel roads, and short pavement sections.

Limited to 150 participants.
