The Lake Hayes Triathlon is New Zealand's oldest surviving triathlon, first held in 1983, and is currently held twice annually at Easter & Christmas. The event on Friday, 30 March 2018 includes a triathlon variant with kayaking instead of swimming, long and short duathlons, and standalone trail running events.
This event has been cancelled due to extremely poor water quality conditions unsuitable for swimming.
The duathlon, triathon & multisport can completed individually, or as part of a team of 2 to 3 people. This triathlon has been a cornerstone of much larger events in the New Zealand triathlon calendar, in the past doubling as the New Zealand national championships, the Oceania Championships, and the World Championships.
