The King of the Mountain Race in Pāuanui on 2 January 2026 is one of the Coromandel’s most iconic summer challenges.

The 7.7km trail dash takes runners from the surf to the summit and back.

Setting off from Pāuanui Surf Life Saving Club, the course runs along the beach reserve to the base of Mount Pāuanui where the climb to the summit begins. Take in the spectacular views from the top before descending via the Cave Bay Loop track back to Surf Club.

This legendary event takes place every January as part of the Pāuanui Summer Series, and is now organised by No Code Events.
