The Wairakei Estate Ironkidz Triathlon on 1 March 2026 in Taupō includes a Triathlon for kids aged 7 to 15, and a Splash & Dash for 5 to 7 year olds.
It’s about getting out there, having a go and achieving a personal best and having a heap of fun.
The triathlon course is based on Lake Terrace with a swim along the beach (those in the Elite category will swim out to a cone and back in deeper water, and must be competent swimmers); a bike ride towards the Hole in One near the town centre and a run towards 3-mile Bay. The triathlon can be done on your own or as part of a 2 or 3 person relay team.
The Splash & Dash is a paddle in Lake Taupō and a short run along the lakefront. Children do not need to be able to swim and parents can accompany their child if they wish.
Distances/Events
Kids Triathlons (Swim + Bike + Run):
7 - 10 years: 100m + 4K + 1K
11 - 15 years: 200m + 8K + 2K
Elite: 300m + 12K + 3K
Kids Splash & Dash (Swim + Run):
5 - 7 years: 50m + 550m
