Carousel Backyard Ultra

The Alexander Airport Carousel Backyard Ultra on 11 April 2026 is a last one standing event in Central Otago, NZ.
A Backyard Ultra is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run a 6.71km course in less than one hour, every hour. When each lap is completed, the remaining time within the hour is used to recover and replenish for the next hour's race. The race finishes when one person completes one more lap than anyone else.
The course is a lap of the Alexandra Airport on single and 4WD tracks, with around 50m of elevation per loop. Terrain is a combination of hard packed trail and pine forest, and maintains spectacular views of the surrounding mountains to take your mind off the pain.
This is a self-supported event and you will need to provide your own gazebo, chair, food and water.
A portion of every entry will be donated to I Am Hope and Bowel Cancer New Zealand to support these charities with their critical work with youth mental health and bowel cancer patient support and advocacy.
