True West Adventure Race
Friday, 26 February 2027 to Sunday, 28 February 2027
West Coast, NZ
The True West Adventure Race 2027 is a team event that takes place in some of New Zealand’s most remote and wild terrain.
The event is based on the West Coast, with the 2027 location to be confirmed.
Some details on this page are based on the previous event and subject to change; we will update this listing as more information comes to hand.
Teams of adventure athletes race non-stop, across rugged and challenging terrain. The teams must navigate through the wilderness using only a map and compass. To finish ranked, teams must complete the course with their complete team. Only teams that can work together under stress and fatigue, have a high level fitness and ability, and outdoor skills will have any chance of finishing.
There are 3, 6, 24 and 48 hour events with disciplines including rafting, mountain biking and hiking.
The event also includes a Schools Adventure Race with 3 race categories to suit all skill levels: Junior: Years 7 & 8 (3-4 hour), Intermediate: Years 9 & 10 (4-6 hour) and Senior: Years 11 – 13 (6-8 hour). Race in teams of 2, 3, or 4 (Male, Female, or Mixed).
