The iconic Wharf to Wharf Marathon returns to Aotea / Great Barrier Island on 3 October 2026.

The full Marathon is a point-to-point course across the island starting at Port Fitzroy Wharf and finishing at Tryphena Wharf. It combines Forest Road, Te Ahumata Track, and scenic island roads, offering a mix of trail and road terrain with native bush, rolling hills, and coastal views.

The full distance is suited to experienced runners/walkers with a high level of fitness. The course is fully marked, with aid stations and marshal support along the entire route.

As well as the 42.2km Marathon, there is also a Half Marathon distance (with trail or road options), a 10km over Tryphena Hill and a 5km fun run on a family-friendly course.
