Leith Cross Country Relays & Ponydale Challenge

The Leith Cross Country Relays on 16 May 2026 is an annual teams relay race, held over a rugged grassed 2km course at the Dunedin Pony Club.
Get a team together of family, friends, school or workmates. Teams can be made up of 1 to 4 runners and complete either the 8km (2 x 2km) or 16km (4 x 2km) course.
For junior runners, there is the Short Trot (10 - 12 years), an individual race of 1 lap of an 800m lap course; and the Long Trot relay (U14s) of 4 x 800m laps.
The Ponydale Challenge held on the same day is an ultra cross country race where the runners start at the same time as the first leg runners of Race 1 in the relays section. The goal is for the runners to run as many 2km laps as possible in 3 hours. Whoever completes the most laps in this time is the Challenge winner.
This event is organised by the Leith Harriers and Athletic Club. There is no prerequisite that runners need to belong to a running club to enter.
