"In the Footsteps of the Marines" is a scenic hilly run or walk on Sunday, 27 May 2018, following the challenging route march described by Leon Uris in "Battle Cry."
The event commemorates the arrival of US forces in New Zealand during World War Two. The race starts and finishes at Whareroa Farm, MacKays Crossing, Paekakariki and includes sealed and unsealed roads, and bush and clay tracks. The course has climbs of about 300m. A good standard of fitness is required.

Both courses involve hill tracks and unsealed roads, and have uphill sections of approximately 4 to 5 kms in total. Distances are approximate.
