"In the Footsteps of the Marines" is a scenic hilly 13.2km run or walk, following the challenging route march described by Leon Uris in "Battle Cry."

The event commemorates the arrival of US forces in New Zealand during World War Two. The race starts and finishes at Whareroa Farm, MacKays Crossing, Paekakariki and includes sealed and unsealed roads, and bush and clay tracks. The 13.2km distance has climbs of about 300m. A good standard of fitness is required.
